The Training
Venue
Training in Underwater Port Security is conducted in
Key West, Florida, using both the Marine Public Safety Training Facility
on the main campus of FKCC and the Port of Key West. These facilities,
located within minutes of each other, provide an opportunity for
year-round, virtually all-weather training operations. The College
campus, including its unique Underwater Training Area (UTA), currently
is the site for all U.S. Army Corps of Engineers civilian diver training,
the East Coast facility for NOAA diver training, and a primary location
for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement FDLE) courses in Underwater
Police Science and Technology. These and other FKCC courses frequently
make use of the Port of Key West for practical field training. Although
it is the busiest cruise port in the Eastern U.S., scheduled traffic
in this facility is still light enough to provide a safe training
environment for small boat and diving operations. |
